August Round Up
August was a busy month for HETHERSETT HAWKS/YELLOWBRICK MORTGAGES starting with the Hawks racing Ipswich Eagles.
Div 2 Ipswich 106, Hethersett 52
Youth Ipswich 82, Hethersett 75
Nyla and Luca took part in the 2nd round British Youth and Junior League with Nyla coming 4th in the U10 B final and 4th in a very competitive U12 A final.
A lot of August was spent preparing the track and planning to welcome the UK’s top cycle-speedway riders over the Bank holiday weekend. Almost 200 riders contested 12 categories across three tracks and Hethersett staged 5 British finals and other qualifying events across the Saturday and Sunday. An immense amount of work went into this and the Hawks did themselves proud with both their racing and their hospitality.
In the U12’s Luca and Frank finished joint 4th with 16 points, Ronnie finished on 11 points and Arlo 11. Lola had a tough draw in the U14 Girls but gave it her all and finished 4th with 13 points – only 1 point off 3rd. Lola was in action again the next day in the U16 girls and finished an amazing 5th. The weekend finished with Dave, Lola and Amelia riding well at Kesgrave. Congratulations to the new British Champions who won at our track:
Roman Boaler (Horspath) U12 Open, Tallulah Curtis (Poole) U12 Girls, Teddy Curtis (Poole) U14 Open, Amberley Gant (Kesgrave) U14 Girls and Lilly Parr (Kesgrave) U14 Girls
The month rounded off with some of our little Hawks flying the nest and taking part int the Little League British Cycle Speedway Championships at Horspath. There was some amazing racing from Isaac, Jake and Levi in the U8 and U10 boys and huge congratulations to Nyla who came home with the white jersey after being crowned this year’s U10 Girls British Champion.
