Norfolk Go-Ride at Harford – Round 1
Norfolk Go-Ride Series at Harford
With weather warnings in place all round, Wednesday 22nd May stayed dry – dark and cloudy, but dry so HETHERSETT HAWKS sponsored by YELLOWBRICK MORTGAGES surprisingly made their way to Harford for the opening round of the Norfolk Go-Ride Series.
It was a much busier affair than in previous years as due to rule changes, riders living in Norfolk were now allowed to enter and there was also a re-shuffle of the age categories now being U8, U10, U13, U16 and Seniors. Riders had to carefully consider the category entered as this will be in place for each round and all riders entered the category that would give them the most competitive racing. Heats are ridden as U8/U10, U13/U16 and Seniors and then the finals are ridden individually.
The heats were very competitive with riders pushing themselves and showing their skills – training is clearly paying off!. Spectators were treated to a Jake/Isaac tussle in the U10 whilst the U13 was fought between Austin, Stanley, Ronnie and Arlo. Arlo had his best ride to date with pushing his fellow Hawks all the way to the line and very close to stealing places from them – pit talk was mostly interrogating him over what he had for dinner and vows to replicate it for the next round! The U16 was hugely competitive between Lola, Zackary and Connor whilst everyone held their breath at the speed the Seniors were going round.
Unfortunately, whilst the finals were being calculated, the drops of rain started and then during the U10 final the heavens opened and Jake, Henry and Isaac swam their off the track covered in mud and cheerfully trying to hug or high five those who had not gone out! Sensibly, the match was abandoned with the suggestion to ride the finals at the next round in Spixorth. Due to not all riders being available then, the decision was made to award the places on the points earned meaning the results were as follows:
U10
1st Jake – 20 points
2nd – Isaac – 18 points
3rd – Henry – 17 points
U13
1st Austin – 20 points
3rd Ronnie – 17 points
4th Arlo – 16 points
U16
3rd Lola – 17 points
4th Amelia – 16 points
Seniors
Harley (inj) – 12 points
The Hawks are next in action on Wednesday 5th June at Spixworth for the second round of the Norfolk Go-Ride series and the medal presentation from Harford.
