SEGP R3 at Somersham
A surprisingly warm afternoon saw the HETHERSETT HAWKS sponsored by YELLOWBRICK MORTGAGES land in Somersham for the third round of the South East Grand Prix. A unique little track (with no barriers separating spectators from riders!) caused a divided opinion amongst the team with some riders loving it – and some not so much!
First in action was the U8’s and U10’s and Hethersett had Nyla and Isaac riding – both of them faring well and holding their own going up an age category. Both rode consistently and both had heat wins, meaning both of them ended up together in the B final with Isaac finishing on 12 points and Nyla 10. After drawing adjacent gates, Nyla took the win with Isaac in 4th.
Next up was our strongest category of the day with 5 young Hawks in the U12 category – Arlo, Austin, Frank, Luca and Ronnie. Finding shade in the pits they were riding during the hottest part as there was no sign of the predicted clouds and clear skies all round. All five riders put in solid heats with Frank having a stand out all-round performance, Luca going head-to-head with Theo from Kesgrave, Ronnie finding some great inside lines, Austin gating noticeably faster and Arlo saving his best ride for the final. The points finished with Luca on 16, Frank 16, Austin 10, Ronnie 9 and Arlo 4. Ronnie drew gate 4 in a run-off for the B final against Samuel from Hellingly with Sam getting the better of him on this occasion. The finals finished as C Final – Ronnie 1st, Arlo 2nd, B Final – Austin 3rd, A Final – Luca 1st, Frank 4th.
Last up for the Hawks was Amelia and Lola both riding for the Girls. To round off a good days racing Amelia finished 1st in the B Final and Lola 4th in the A Final. They amounted 8 points and 10 points respectively.
The Hawks are next in action on Wednesday 22nd May at Harford Bridge for the first round of the Norfolk Go-Ride series.
