Hawks Final Cycle Speedway sessions of 2022!
HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES ended their season in balmy conditions after heavy early morning rain by staging a Final Day Funday event. 26 members were split into four teams across five one-hour sessions competing in a variety of relay, Kierin and elimination races plus the ever-popular limbo challenge. It simply was a fun day and a terrific way to end one of the busiest and most successful seasons in the Hawks’ 56-year history.
Active members total 83 of whom 40 tasted the sport for the first time. 52 of the members have represented the Club in competitive activity beyond the internal training sessions of which there have been 59 on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Diversity of members continues to expand, especially with the Club welcoming disabled and neuro-divergent children in special sessions under the WINGZ Access to Sport programme. Just under 25% of members are female and the biggest growth area has been Under-8s – 23 taking part this season.
It has not just been the quantity of riders that has been impressive but this season has seen amazing quality. Runners-up position in the South-East League Division 2 capped the season which brought one British Team Championship (Under-10s) and two British Individual titles (Under-10 Boys and Under-8 Girls) to the Club. Series wins at national level were achieved at Under-10s and at the other end of the spectrum – a Eurovets Over-60s champion. Closer to home the club has five Norfolk Champions and five Norfolk GP series winners.
The infectious family atmosphere within the Club is what is most quoted by newcomers and this will no doubt be borne out at the Club’s Presentation Evening on Friday December 2nd at Hethersett Social Club.
