Luca wins British Youth & Junior League U10s overall!
HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES’ youngest star brought home another national title to the Club. Luca El-Labany still reached the “A” Final in the final round of the Little League Under-10s Grand Prix Series in Astley & Tyldesley despite suffering an uncharacteristic fall in one of his heats. Drawn on the outside grid in the final he settled into second place which was more than enough to be crowned champion over the four round series.
The following day two strong looking sides lined up at the Memorial Playing Field in the local derby South-East League Division 2 match against Norwich Stars B. Friendly rivalry always ensures some exciting racing and this match was no exception. The Hawks capitalised on some luck and unforced errors by Norwich B’s riders early on to build an11-point interval advantage, Daniel Martin notching three wins. An exclusion and a 3-7 reverse midway through the second half gave Norwich a chink of hope but a 7-3 win from Daniel Martin and man-of-the match Paul Delaiche in heat 14 sealed the victory. Glyn Morgan also rode well in an all-round good team performance that preserved their unbeaten home record and keeps them still in contention for the title.

The Youth Division match looked like being another close affair until a couple of incidents led to a lengthy delay and after that some Norwich riders lost interest allowing the young Hawks to ease to a victory. A disappointing end to a good day’s racing. Highlight was Amelia Dodson’s improved form.

Wednesday will see round 5 of the Norfolk Grand Prix Series for older riders at Hethersett (7 pm) while some Hawks will travel to Great Blakenham on Saturday for Round 7 of the South-East Grand Prix. Sunday sees the Hawks’ League programme conclude with a key match against Kesgrave at the Memorial Playing Field. The Division 2 match is at 2 p.m. but there are two youth matches either side at 1 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.
