Hawks weekend update!

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES faced a daunting task of two matches in one day in Suffolk against the League’s top two teams and when they arrived at Whitton Sports Centre to face Ipswich without Harley Hamill (work) and Leigh Cossey (ill overnight) they feared the worse.  A heavy defeat will not tell the full story of some excellent teamwork and an outstanding performance by McKenzie Loombe.  Highlight was the 7-3 win by Charlie Lyth and Paul Delaiche over England international Ash Hill.

Credit due to Hamill and Cossey for joining up with the team in the afternoon at Great Blakenham where they each put in three substitute rides.  Four home riders were unbeaten but the Hawks batted away for points despite fatigue setting in. So a day that had more positive than negatives despite the scores.

Racing was much closer in midweek when the Hawks B team travelled to Eaton Park for a Division 2 match with Norwich B.  Norwich looked stronger on paper but the Hawks led after a topsy-turvy eight heats.  A calamitous 7-2 in heat 9 gave Norwich the advantage and they never lost a race after that apart from a consolation 7-3 for the Hawks in the final race.  It was an entertaining evening made more so by the inclusion of the mercurial Jason Barker on his retro ladies frame! Charlie Lyth was outstanding.

Four Hethersett riders were on duty in the Home Internationals at Ipswich.  Craig Norton (8 poins) and Harley Hamill (5 points) helped Ireland to third place in the Senior event while Dan Longlands scored 5 points for Wales who finished second in the Junior event,  Charlie Lyth rode for the Ireland Junior Select and scored 10.

This Saturday Hethersett stage Round 6 of the South East & Eastern Grand Prix for all ages staring at 12 noon.
