Hawks weekend update!

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES gave a much improved performance against title chasing Ipswich who had beaten them heavily the previous week.  Using home track advantage they were able to contest most of the heats with some clever tactics and were unlucky not to register more points than the 69-109 defeat.  Leigh Cossey won heat 4 and he and Harley Hamill continually troubled the visitors.

The “B” team then took on Sussex side Hellingly in Division 2 and a close match ensued. The visitors went ahead in heat 6 and followed that with a 7-3 win but straight after the interval Glyn  Morgan shepherded Daniel Longlands home for a 7-3 win to narrow the gap.  The former Division 1 side just had enough in depth to protect their slender lead and ran out winners.  Charlie Lyth was outstanding but Rider of the Match went to 9-year-old Lewis Smith who filled in for both A & B teams at the last minute.

Leigh Cosey and Daniel Lonfglands were both in action the previous day – while Leigh was finishing third in the 35-40 category at the Eurovets round at Eaton Park, Daniel was finishing fourth in the final regional round of the British Junior League series in Sussex.  Charlie Lyth won the U16 GO-RIDE round at Eaton Park in midweek.

Hethersett stage a national event at the Memorial Playing Field this Sunday (1 p.m.) when the South East and Eastern Regions take on the North Region & Scotland.  Top British riders will be in action at Senior and Junior level.
